Sometime last September or October my family had to say goodbye to our closest companion. This little man was, well, the man. Although I wasn’t able to physically say goodbye to Spanky (I was up at college) I knew that it was his time to go. Everything happens for a reason, and his journey had to come to an end. I don’t think anyone would disagree with the fact that he had an amazing life. We spoiled the heck out of this little guy and towards the end; we did everything in our power to make him as comfortable as possible.
Welp, this one is for you Spanks:
Thank You For Not Being A Cat:
-I don’t know what it is about those crazy furballs, but man do they scare me. Something about the claws and that super high-pitched “meow” they have going on really gets to me. I can’t say we would have been as close as we were if you were a cat, so thank you for that.
Thank You For Always Keeping Me On My Toes:
-Whether it be sneaking under the front porch, or running like a mad man after you had just got a bath- you always knew how to keep me alert. Walking out from under the porch with a squirrel or bird wasn’t really out of the ordinary for you. Let’s not forget how our walks went either; if there was so much as one more dog on the street it would be an immediate code red.
Thank You For Always Hanging Out With Me:
-Wanting to cuddle on a rainy day was never a problem with you. Whether it was sleeping on the couch, in bed, or on the floor, you would always be down for a good nap. Also, thank you for always finding a way to spread yourself equally when it was time to go to bed. You were able to evenly sleep in Nick’s room, my room, and of course our parents room in your younger days. Deciding who got to have a sleep over with you was never a problem in this household, because damn were you good at pleasing everyone.
Thank You For Eating All Of The Carrots:
-No one dislikes carrots more than this girl, but luckily you showed us that they were your favorite snack. I never even got the chance to eat a mini carrot because you hogged them all, and boy am I thankful for that. I’m actually surprised you never turned orange from all of those carrots!
Thank You For Always Watching Out For Us:
-Let’s face it; we all know you weren’t a German Shepard or a 200-pound Mastiff. But hey, everyone can pretend. You’d be proud to know that your bark was equally as loud as any other Pitbulls. To be honest, I think all of the other dogs in the neighborhood were afraid of you. Thank you for always fending off our neighbor’s dog, Jetta too. You’d be happy to know that she’s actually moving- we can finally say goodbye to the nonstop barking whenever we try to sit by the pool! Oh, and while we’re on the subject, she is getting super old! By the way…you aged a lot better than her, so Kudos to you!
Thank You For Always Dealing With My Hour Long Photo-shoots:
-To be honest, you really were the most handsomest dog in the world, I just haaaaad to capture all of your beauty through pictures at least once a day. Those pictures eventually came in handy, I have them hanging all over my wall and smile every time I look at them. You really were one adorable little guy.
Thank You For Sticking Around For Us:
-I can’t deny that the day I found out you had to be put to sleep was probably one of the worst of my life. But thinking back on it, I was lucky enough to get to have you as my brother for 19 whole years. You were by my side throughout all of my awkward middle school days all the way up until the day I graduated high school. You even stuck around long enough to say goodbye to me when it was time to go off to college. Although we all do still wish you were here and miss you very much, you had one hell of a ride. I don’t know any other dogs that have lived as long as you did.
Thank You For Being The Best Dog I Ever Had:
-You truly were a character Spanks, it could have been the worst day in the world and coming home to you waddling through the kitchen would make it better in a heartbeat. I was lucky enough to get to spend a quarter of my life with you; we grew up together. Even in your older days you still pushed through. You did everything in your power to make us happy (even if it included making you run around with a sombrero on your head for hours at a clip). Most of all, thank you for the never-ending devotion, love, and loyalty that you shared with us. You will never be forgotten.
