It’s a typical rainy Wednesday up at my college. I really do like rainy days, but not when I have a sh*t ton of work to do. Rainy days call for naps, Greys Anatomy marathons and hot chocolate. But instead, my day will consist of research papers, cleaning my room, and creating lesson plans- enthralling, I know.
With the endless pit of work I have to complete today, you best believe that I will need a bit of a push to get through the day. Buuuut, those of you who read my last blog post may know that I am trying to cut back on caffeine.
Thus, I have been drinking water like a fish. I drink about a gallon to a gallon and a half of water a day. And no, I’m not trying to turn into a mermaid, just try and hear me out:
Water energizes the body, and believe it or not, can actually wake you up. Water protects the sensitive tissue in your body and keeps the membranes in places like your nose and mouth hydrated. Even the slightest bit of dehydration can decrease your energy and lead you to be fatigued, and tired. Point of this spiel- water has some of the same benefits that caffeinated drinks do!
If we’re getting serious about dehydration, approximately 77% of Americans suffer from dehydration. Maybe we should all lay off the coffee a bit, and seek out water to help us get through our busy days instead.
The point is, you don’t want to be a part of that percentage. If you want to be healthy and stay hydrated you should be drinking about a gallon or so of water a day. 1 gallon= 128 ounces. So, If you have a 32 ounce water bottle, you should be drinking about 4 of those a day.
Besides keeping you healthy and hydrated, water does a bunch of other things that can aid in benefiting your body as well. Amongst the million other little things that water can do for you, it has also been proven that water clears up skin, keeps your bowel movement in order, aids in weight loss, gives you the feeling of being “full”, and allows your body to be fully energized.
Did you know that water actually improves skin thickness? This helps your skin steer far away from flaking, or getting things like those dreaded chapped lips. So, if you’re not drinking enough water every day you can basically classify yourself as a grandpa- nice, I know.
I guess the point of this blog post is that you seriously…seriously…REALLY should be drinking more water! Water has so many hidden benefits that are so good for your body. That about sums up today’s quick lil’ blog post; I hope you all enjoy your day (especially if it is raining)- I’ll be over here writing papers until my fingers can’t type anymore.
