Packing for college can be hard enough as it is; but that’s not even the half of it. Getting all of your belongings to fit in your car is a whole other story. If you’re like me, your family doesn’t own a truck. Thus, you need to pack as compact and light as possible.
Because I have “been there done that”, I do know a few tips and tricks that can help you fit all of your belongings in your tiny space!
Let’s get started, shall we?!
Ziploc Vacuum Bags:
-These bags are like magic. If you are unsure of what these are, they’re basically giant Ziploc bags with a tiny hole where you place the tube of your vacuum. After filling the bags up with as much as possible, you then can suck out all of the excess air. Believe it or not, these things really do work! They make items such as bedding, pillows, and clothes much more compact then they normally are. I highly recommend picking up some of these bags! These bags can be found almost anywhere. Dollar Tree, Wal-Mart and Target are just a few of the stores that sell these bad boys!
Here is a quick preview of these amazing bags! Heres the before photo:

-My boyfriend used this service last year. Basically, Bed Bath & Beyond came up with the awesome idea of allowing you to shop around the store closest to your home and then pick your items up in a store that is closest to your school. It’s simple; once you take the time to choose everything you’d like to purchase in the store closest to your home, the Bed Bath & Beyond closest to your college will be notified and will get all of your items ready for you over there. This is perfect if you have a Bed Bath & Beyond close to your college!
-Amazon has recently released its new service, Amazon Pantry. This is basically like an online supermarket! This is an awesome idea for your college dorm room snacks, and will save a ton of room in the car!
-Going along with Amazon Pantry, simply ordering some of your college needs online can really be a space saver! I know a few people who just order their toiletries online, this way they don’t have to pack them in the car. I ordered all of my textbook s online and they’re already sitting at my college’s shipping room waiting for me (how nice).
The last and most important advice that I can give you when it comes to fitting everything in your car for college would be to limit yourself. I know my freshman year of college I over packed like crazy. But believe me, you really don’t need everything that you think you do. Some things you definitely don’t need to bring to college include:
-A million big t-shirts.
-More than one purse.
-Every picture you have ever taken.
-Clothes that you haven’t worn in years, but you “might” wear in college- believe me you still won’t.
-Duplicates of any major items that your roommate is bringing.
I hope this helps any of you who are nervous about fitting everything in your car, as it is getting closer to move in day! Do you have any tips or advice as to how to fit everything in your car?- I’d love to hear them!
