So many bloggers think that one of the only ways to be successful is to keep your realm of posts in a “niche”. In other words, a niche is a certain category or genre of blog posts. A bit more clarification:

I’ll admit, I do think blogs focusing on one subject are awesome, but, I am not a strong believer in having to stick to one “niche” or category of posts.

If all you ever could post about was limited to one category how creative could you really get? Don’t you think stepping out of your comfort zone would be a little bit hard, considering you’re already stuck inside of it due to the niche that you chose when you started your blog?

People change, you change, your audience changes. In order to keep up with a stable niche, you’re going to have to figure out ways to mold your niche to your changing audience. Whether it be a younger generation growing up or an audience going with the flow of what’s current in the world, you need to be ready to change your niche if you want to please them.

After thinking for a long time, I realize that I really don’t have a niche. My blog covers topics anywhere from recipes, fitness, to music, to tips and advice. I truly write about whatever pops into my mind. After all, it is my blog and I write on it because it makes me happy. Therefore, I write about what makes me happy. I don’t fit into any of the “niches” that are floating around the endless blogging world. In short, I have a lot of things that I want to write about and share with my audience and I only have one blog to post them on.

SO HOW CAN YOU ROCK A NICHELESS BLOG?

First of all, blog about what makes you happy. What can your audience take away from reading your posts? Blog about whatever your little heart desires but make sure that your audience can at least get something from it. Think about this long and hard, because it is very important.

Stay true to yourself. But be sure to write about things that your readers can relate to. You can easily blog about whatever you want while relating to readers. Even just reflecting on small pieces of your life that other readers might find relatable can do the trick. This will allow you to establish strong relationships with your audience.

Try and create subcategories within your blog. This way your readers can have a bit of insight on what you’ll be blogging about. This allows you to gain views from bloggers of different niches. For example, if you decide to have a subcategory of fitness posts and decide to blog about something related to fitness every Wednesday, a fitness blogger may come to view your blog!

Have fun with your “nicheless” blog and be sure to stay true to what makes you happy! What is your take on niches?

  • This is a really great discussion. I’ve gone back and forth so many times…. I love my New England niche, but then I tend to feel guilty when I stray from it– but that’s not the right attitude either! You’re right, we should all just write about what makes us happy… that’s what readers will believe in 🙂
