Geez, it has been a WHILE since I have taken some time to blog. Unfortunately, it has actually been about a month since I last blogged. I seriously need to start working on writing out posts ahead of time before they are scheduled to go up; that is one of my goals this summer.
Since my sophomore year of college just came to an end, I wanted to take some time to do a recap! I really can’t believe that another year has passed, it’s crazy to think about! I’m officially halfway done with my college career, which is kind of a little bit scary.
Feel free to grab a quick snack and a glass of water, because this is going to be a long one!
This year I lived in a quad styled dorm, it seriously was so much fun. I attend college at SUNY Oneonta and they have a bunch of different room styles that you can live in, one of which being a quad (duh, I lived in one). If you are not sure what I mean by “quad style” it’s basically two double rooms connected with a common room. I LOVED how my room was set up this year. I went for a much more relaxed look, getting rid of all the bright colors and cluttered walls that I had during my freshman year. The post I wrote on my room STILL generates the most traffic to my blog. I got to live in this quad styled room with a group of my fabulous friends and am so thankful for all of the memories that we made.
As far as classes go, I finally started to take some of my major classes! The way that my college is set up is kind of strange. Students have to take a TON of general education classes before they can actually start taking classes that are required for their major. In my opinion, the general education classes are boring and redundant, I really don’t understand why we are required to take them but I guess there isn’t much I can do about it. However, this semester I took a few different education classes that I really loved (I’m majoring in adolescent education for those of you that don’t know). I had a professor for one of my classes who I found to be absolutely amazing. Definitely, my favorite professor at my college so far and I am so excited to take another class with her next semester!
Speaking of next semester, my friends and I were finally able to get a suite styled dorm. This is similar to the set up that I had this year, except there will be a bathroom in our room and three double rooms connected with a common room instead of just two. I am so excited to live with a bunch of great people again and to have our own bathroom.
My sophomore year was also awesome career wise, I guess you could say. I was able to get a small side job that had to do with something I love…. Instagram! I managed an Instagram account for the student-run newspaper at my college. This was a great experience because I was able to get paid while doing something that I love. Sidenote: if you don’t follow me on Instagram already, you totally should!
I was also lucky enough to get a job for next semester when I go back up to school. What is the job, you ask? A barista at a small cafe in my college’s library! I am so excited about this and can’t wait to learn how to make some groovy drinks for people. I’m super thankful for another job opportunity that I might be receiving next semester which would be teaching the minimum of web design to middle schoolers! I am so excited for this possibility because it will give me some hands-on work in the field that I am majoring in. Crossing my fingers that this opportunity works out.
Enough of academics and jobs, let’s get into the fun stuff. I was lucky enough to do some pretty cool things this year while I was up at school. My boyfriend and I decided to invest in season passes at a local ski mountain by our college. This was probably one of the best ideas we have had in a while because we definitely got our moneys worth. This gave us something to do on the weekends and definitely improved my snowboarding skills. We did eventually take a break from the cold weather and took a few more adventures when the weather got nicer. We spent a day in Saratoga Springs, Boston, and let’s not forget Albany when we went to see Bruce Springsteen live!
This year was also when my family’s adopted dog turned one years old , and when I adopted a bunny! Both are absolutely crazy but are super adorable. Cisco is a dopple dachshund and Elliot is a mini flop eared bunny!
My friends and I took some weekend excursions as well. I went to this amazing hiking spot with my friends and had a spontaneous mall trip with another group of friends. Being on campus every day can get a little bit boring at times so taking weekend adventures is always a ton of fun.
The Her Campus team that I run at my college made some amazing strides this year as well. We put on a lot more events, held some amazing giveaways and generated SO much traffic to our site. I am so lucky to have a group of girls who really love to write and work hard to make our Her Campus chapter amazing.
Overall, my sophomore year was incredible! I’m going to be lame and throw in a quick cliche here, but time really does “fly” when you are having fun. I can’t believe how fast the year went by. I did great in my classes and made some unbelievable memories with some great people. I can’t wait to see what my junior year of college has to offer for me!
