It is safe to say that most bloggers do sponsored posts every once in a while. Sponsored posts are great because (if you’re a blogger) you usually get to try out a new product, or earn some compensation for your time and hard work.
Sponsored opportunities can be super exciting. If someone is offering you $80+ to sponsor their product you’ll probably want to say yes in a heartbeat. However, there are a few things you should think about before officially accepting a “sponsortunity”
Do You Like The Product?
Do you even like the brand or product that is trying to endorse you? This is a huge factor that you should take some time to think about when deciding whether or not you want to collaborate with a company. It would be quite tough to write a whole blog post on something that you didn’t even feel strongly about.
Are You Being Truthful?
Going back to what I just said prior, do you really want to sponsor a company or product that you don’t like? This would result in you lying to your audience. Remember, what you have to say about a product could very well make a member of your audience go out and purchase it. Would you feel bad about that if all of the things you said about the product weren’t even your own opinion?
Think About Time vs. Payment
Does the company just want you to write a blog post about their product? Or do they want social media postings as well? Your time is value, make sure thou are getting compensated the correct way. I once had a company offer me $10 for a blog post. I knew that my blog, and time, were worth much more than a measly 10 dollars, so I obviously declined the offer.
Know Your Audience
So maybe you really are interested in this one product, and would love to try it out and blog about it. What would your audience think about this? Blogging about something that really doesn’t reach your audience doesn’t make much sense. Sure you’re getting a free product, and maybe even some compensation, but you want to make sure that you are posting about things that your audience can relate to.
Do Some Research
If you are seriously thinking about working with a company make sure you take a good amount of time to research everything they stand for and what they are like. Make sure they have a working website and are quick to respond to any questions or concerns that you may have.
There are probably a ton of other things to take into consideration when deciding whether or not you want to do a sponsored post, what do you think about when you want to do a sponsored post.
