Why 8 a.m. Classes Aren’t That Bad

Why 8 a.m. Classes Aren’t That Bad- everything you need to know about taking morning classes in college as well as how to see them as a positive rather than a negative!

Hey guys! I hope you are all having an awesome Monday and for some of you who are starting class today, I hope you make it out alive.

As you would know if you read my post I uploaded on Friday, my parents moved me back into school this past weekend. Unfortunately, today was my first day of classes. I started the day off bright and early with my first class at 8 a.m. But don’t worry; I am here to tell you that 8 a.m.’s aren’t as horrible as they come off to be. I promise I will back up this statement.

Although waking up early can be a huge negative for some people, starting the day that early allows you to be extremely productive. A ton of people I know hit the gym right after their 8 a.ms. Because it’s so early, the gym is usually not crowded at all. You won’t have to wait for any machines or worry about whether or not the people working out next to you can realize how bad you smell. This is just one more way to stay healthy in college.

Last year I would head to Starbucks right after my 8 a.m. classes. Grabbing a coffee and being in a productive state of mind worked wonders for me. Plus, who wants to wait on line at Starbucks in the afternoon with all those 11 a.mers.

At 8 a.m., your phone usually isn’t blowing up with social media notifications and messages from all of your friends (if it is I am so sorry for you). Waking up early and not constantly being distracted by your phone will allow you to get ready faster as well as give you some relaxing quiet time, which is sometimes much needed in college.

Going along with this, because not too many people have 8 a.m. classes, you’re most likely going to be able to get ready in the morning in pure peace and quiet. A relaxing morning leads to a relaxing day.

Another positive of taking an 8 a.m. class is that there is usually hardly anyone on campus at this time! Walking to class at your own pace and not being stuck behind the girl who is non-stop texting is actually way nicer than it sounds. Because I go to school upstate, one of my favorite things is to take in the view of the mountains on my way to my early classes.

So quit giving these 8 a.m.’s such negative connotations! I am here to tell you that you should not be afraid of morning classes! Seize these morning classes’ people; they’re a lot better than they’re put out to be!

  • Good for you! I REALLY want to try to be more of a morning person. I know that so much can be accomplished in those earlier hours before the whole world is awake. 😉 Good luck with your classes this semester!

  • I love this!

  • I always loved having 8ams because after they were over, I had one class down and it wasn’t even 9 yet! Then I’d either go to my next class or start on homework. I’d finish my days so early!

  • I actually love morning classes! Especially because of your point that there’s no one on campus–you know how easy it is to find a spot at the library at 9:30? Pretty darn easy. 🙂

All of my classes are at 9 AM this semester, and I really love it! I get to start my day off earlier, and I get a lot done during the day. Love the post!

  • I’m not in school, but every so often I get scheduled an opening shift at work & I absolutely love them because I’m able to have my whole afternoon and evening free to do whatever I want or need to do!

I love that you’re thinking positively about things 🙂
    I don’t have any 8 ams, but I have 2 9 ams and 1 10 am 🙂

I love this! So upbeat and positive! …and you’re so right, it’s nice to be up early and have some peace and quiet 🙂

  • Girl, you’re a lot more productive than I am! 8 ams were the bane of my existence in college. 100 level Journalism classes at my school were all at 8 so I spent my fair share of time up that early!

I loved morning classes! I actually feel more tired when my classes start mid-day or in the afternoon. Can’t say I’m a “morning person”, but I’m most productive during this time of the day!

    • I totally agree. I usually am not a morning person at all, but if I have to get up that early I might as well be productive!

  • Hayden Pigott

I totally agree with this! I loved my 8ams because I got an early start on the day. They make my days seem so much longer!

  • I loooove my 8 am classes! I know that’s an unpopular opinion but I always liked it! I have classes 8:30-11:30 every day this semester and it’s so nice because then my afternoons are so free for whatever I wanna do. I totally agree with you 🙂
